[O]n Thursday night, the conservative activist James Oโ€™Keefe gave a talk in Middleburyย promotingย his undercover video operationย Project Veritas.

O’Keefe’sย hidden camera recordingsย targeting journalists, politicians and socialย groups have been roundly criticized, and this eventย took place three days after a high-profile Washington Post exposeย revealed a hoaxย Project Veritas had been planning to discredit the newspaper.

Thursday’s event had been promotedย under the name โ€œMiddleburyโ€™s Problem with Free Speech,โ€ suggesting a connection to an incident earlier this year when a talk by author Charles Murray at Middlebury College was interrupted by protesters.

Thatย incident was barely mentioned at Thursday’s event,ย but students at the college say it still casts a shadow on the campus. And while the national response to Murray’s encounter with college protestors revolved around free speech,ย theย student body’s focus has returned to race relations.

On this week’s podcast, VTDigger’s Cory Dawson talks to Elaine Velie and Nick Garber, student reporters at theย Middlebury Campusย newspaper, about O’Keefe, Murray and the current mood on campus.
