The Vermont State Police Bomb Squad responded to Rochester Elementary School Thursday after a student was found to have what appeared to be a hand grenade.
School officials contacted police to report that a student had “a device that resembled a hand grenade,” according to a police press release. Police determined it was a training device.
There had been no threat made related to the device, police said. No criminal charges are being filed in conjunction with the incident.
Staff at the school took the hand grenade from the student and put it by a walkway outside of the school until police arrived.
Inside the school, students were moved to a different part of the building, state police said.
When explosives experts responded to the school, they determined that the device was an “inert training grenade.”
Police said that “due to the age of the student involved,” school officials are handling the incident.
