Vermonters went to the polls on Tuesday, Aug. 9 to vote in the Democratic and Republican primaries.
In statewide races, voters had five gubernatorial candidates to choose from — Republicans Bruce Lisman and Phil Scott, and three Democrats Matt Dunne, Peter Galbraith and Sue Minter.
Three Democrats also lined up to run in the lieutenant governor race. Rep. Kesha Ram, House Speaker Shap Smith and Sen. David Zuckerman competed for the No. 2 state office.
State treasurer Beth Pearce faced Democratic challenger Richard M. Dunne.
Freelance photographer Roger Crowley captured candidates and voters at the polls on primary election day. U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy and his wife, Marcelle, cast ballots in their hometown of Middlesex and Washington County Sen. Bill Doyle was out and about greeting voters. Ben Kaplan, a 19-year-old candidate for House representative, told Crowley he was running on “experience.”
