The two leading candidates have both raised significant sums of money, but polling shows many Vermonters remain undecided or don’t know the Democrats seeking the state’s top office. The primary for governor is only one of the intriguing races to watch this year. A competitive Democratic primary for lieutenant governor and a host of competitive races for top county law enforcement positions are also attracting voters’ attention and donations.
Just like every other even-year election in Vermont, all legislative positions are on the ballot. The Legislature will see considerable turnover next session, with the leaders of both the House and Senate not seeking reelection. Time will tell whether Republicans will add to the gains they made in 2024 or whether Democrats will take back legislative seats and regain a supermajority.
