A man accused of carrying out three pharmacy robberies in the Burlington area is going to prison for two years and eight months after admitting to the charges.
Bryan McMahon, 31, of Burlington, was sentenced in federal court Wednesday on charges of interference with commerce by robbery.
McMahon admitted robbing pharmacies on three occasions in the course of five months.
In December 2014, McMahon wore ski goggles, a surgical mask, gloves and a Santa Claus hat as he stole OxyContin and methadone from the Lakeside Pharmacy on Pearl Street, according to documents in the case. During the robbery, he gestured to his waist and said, “I’ve got something for you.”
McMahon returned to the Lakeside Pharmacy in April 2015. At that time, he wore aviator sunglasses, a surgical mask and rubber gloves. According to court papers, during the robbery he said, “I’m armed; I’ll shoot you; they won’t give it to me at the hospital.”
McMahon stole methadone from the pharmacy. Later, shoe prints found near the scene were matched with a pair of McMahon’s sneakers.
Later that month, McMahon went to the Rite Aid Pharmacy on North Avenue. He again wore a surgical mask and rubber gloves, as well as an orange vest. He demanded methadone from the pharmacy counter. Shortly after the robbery, city police officers confronted McMahon and found two bottles of methadone in his jacket.
DNA evidence linked McMahon to a surgical mask and orange vest found near the pharmacy.
