TOWNSHEND — Police officials on Wednesday morning were investigating a double homicide that occurred late Tuesday night in Townshend.

According to a news release from the Vermont State Police, at just before 9 p.m. on Tuesday, troopers responded to a residence on Abby Lane for a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, troopers made contact with a woman who told them there were two people shot inside the building. A member of Rescue Inc. went inside with troopers and determined that two adult males were dead.

The woman was taken into custody and was transported to the Brattleboro State Police barracks for questioning. The residence was secured and detectives from the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded. The Vermont State Police mobile command post was activated along with the Crime Scene Search Team.

This case is in the early stages of investigation, however at this time, the deaths appear to be an isolated incident and there is no increased concern for public safety stated the news release. The name of the victims are being withheld, pending identification and notification of family members.

No other details are available at this time, as this is an active and on-going investigation. Detectives are working in coordination with the Windham County State’s Attorney’s Office. When more information becomes available, an updated press release will be issued.
