Gregory Jazcko, the former head of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, says old nuclear reactors should be phased out. He told Matthew Wald of the New York Times that plants that have been operating for more than 40 years should be phased out. It was a mistake, he said, for the NRC to extend the licenses of older reactors and allowing them to operate 60 to 80 years in all.
