A member of the governor’s Vermont Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission, McKone is president of the 18th Vermont Regiment living history unit and an active re-enactor at Civil War events.

Vermont ranks 50th nationwide in state support of higher education. As a result, students at Vermont State College (VSC) institutions pay the highest net tuition of any state college in the U.S. In 1980, the state covered 51% of VSC operating costs; today it provides just 18.7% of the amount, leaving students holding the bag for the rest.
Johnson seeks new market in wake of Grand Union closing
The parking lot of the Johnson Shopping Plaza flooded again in the wake of Tropical Storm Irene on Aug. 28. It would have been a major inconvenience in another time, but that time has come and gone — and the Grand Union along with it.
