Johnson State College is beginning the search for a new president to replace Barbara Murphy, who plans to  retire at the end of June, 2015.

In a letter to faculty dated Oct. 8, outgoing Vermont State Colleges Chancellor Tim Donovan solicited recommendations for search committee members. The search committee will be chaired by Trustee Jerome Diamond.

Five college trustees will be joined on the search committee by five members of the campus community to represent the views of faculty, staff and students. One community member or alumnus, the president of one other Vermont State College institution, and the VSC chancellor also will participate.

Jeb Spaulding, Gov. Peter Shumlin’s secretary of administration, announced in September he would leave state government to replace Donovan as chancellor.

In the letter to faculty, Donovan highlighted recent accomplishments of modernizing and upgrading the school’s facilities, designing early success and retention strategies, streamlining pathways to degree completion, and opening up the ways in which students can prepare for their futures.

“The search for a college president creates many opportunities for the both the college and the board of trustees,” Donovan said.

Johnson State College is one of five schools in the state college system, along with Castleton State College, Community College of Vermont, Lyndon State College and Vermont Technical College.
