To the Editor:

It is obvious from the commentary by the secretary of natural resources that Gov. Phil Scott, in keeping with his party’s leadership in Washington, has decided to do nothing about climate change, carbon emissions or our environment.

What Sec. Julie Moore and Gov. Scott are saying is crystal-clear: We will not comply with the law requiring limits on carbon emissions, and we will fight efforts by legislators and environmental groups like Conservation Law Foundation to make us comply with the law.

Frankly, it is embarrassing that rather than continue working to cut our emissions, recover costs from fossil fuel companies and find ways to help our environment, the Scott administration has decided to go on the attack against those trying to save our air and our health. That is a page taken from the party leadership in Washington.

Gov. Scott and Sec. Moore don’t just want to violate the law on carbon emissions, they are completely out-of-step with the people of this state. Those of us in Vermont who care about climate change and the air we breathe are in the majority. And Gov. Scott, Sec. Moore and President Trump are not.

Sincerely,

Jon Ricketson
