Vermont State Police said a 38-year-old woman found dead in a shot-up car in St. Johnsbury on Tuesday died from a gunshot wound, ruling her death a homicide.
Christina Chatlos, of Williamstown and Barre, was identified by police Thursday following an autopsy at the Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington.
The medical examiner’s office determined that Chatlos died after another person shot her in the torso, according to a state police press release issued Thursday afternoon.
The investigation into the case is continuing, they said.
Adam Silverman, a state police spokesperson, said Thursday two people have been detained on unrelated out-of-state warrants as part of the investigation into Chatlos’s death.
“We can’t offer any more information about those individuals,” Silverman said.
He said there are “a number of reasons in Vermont why the names of individuals might not be able to be released, including if they’re subject of a sealing order in court, perhaps juvenile issues or juveniles are involved, a number of reasons like that, but I can’t go into specifics in this case.”
Silverman said the probe into the homicide is continuing and investigators spent Thursday conducting interviews and canvassing the area where the vehicle was located.
A little before 6 p.m. Tuesday, a passerby notified police of a vehicle in the area of 501 Portland St. in which a woman, later identified as Chatlos, was slumped over inside, according to police. Arriving officers confirmed Chatlos was dead and the vehicle had apparent bullet holes on it, police said.
The Caledonian Record reported that the vehicle was spotted by the passerby off a back parking lot of the Cornerstone School, which had closed earlier Tuesday afternoon.
