I am a former Vermonter, having lived in Bristol/Starksboro for 18 years. As I started reading Patrick Crowley’s article about the renaming of Burlington’s airport to Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport, I thought how special that was.
But then it dawned on me that BTV should have been named for Bernie Sanders. In addition to having long served Vermont as its representative and now as a senator, he was the city’s mayor.
On a personal note, my wife and I will never forget when, as she was returning home to BTV from a business trip about 15 years ago, there was Bernie, also having just arrived on a flight, insisting on helping her with her bags at a luggage carousel.
