The week of Oct. 10-16 was Sterile Processing Technician Appreciation Week. I am sure you are scratching your heads wondering what in the world is a sterile processing technician?
A sterile processing technician works in many types of health care environments. When you go to an appointment, notice that the instrumentation that is going to be used on you is sterile?
These technicians are behind the scenes; it is a very long process that you do not see. Sometimes it can take hours to go through each stage, making sure it is ready for the next procedure. They work hard so you don’t have to worry.
This is often a very thankless job because it is often unknown or forgotten how much a sterilization department helps with its role in the medical field. The pay isn’t great and the hours are long, but the techs are proud to know they are doing their part with patient safety.
Thank you to all sterilization technicians all over Vermont! Keep it up, everyone! You are superheroes and miracle workers!
