Update, 3:58 p.m., Oct. 17: Burlington Police have identified the body found on the roof of 202 Main St. as Scott Blanchette of South Burlington. The death is believed to suicide by gunshot, according to a press release from the Burlington Police Department.

Police are investigating the death of a man discovered on a Burlington rooftop Monday afternoon.

Just after 2:30 p.m., Burlington Police dispatch was notified that a man appeared to be sleeping on the roof of 202 Main St., a building at the intersection of Main Street and South Winooski Avenue.

When police arrived, they discovered the body of a white male in his late 20s, according to a press release.

Police have yet to identify the man or disclose the cause of death, but say they are confident there is no ongoing threat to the public.

It is unknown how long the man was on the roof prior to police arriving.

The building houses multiple businesses and office spaces, including Mr. Mikes, ESOX and Mirabelleโ€™s Cafe and Bakery.

Investigators erected blue tarp tents on the roof while conducting their investigation to protect from rain. Southbound traffic on South Winooski Avenue was diverted around the scene as a fire department ladder truck responded.

First responders removed the body with the ladder truck just before 6 p.m., according to WCAX.

WCAX also reported that some people who work at the businesses said there is only one way to the roof through a door and staircase in the center of the building.

Burlington police are asking anyone with information to contact the department at 802-658-2704.

Police did not respond to multiple requests for comment by Tuesday afternoon.
