[B]urlingtonโ€™s police chief is taking a leave of absence, according to city officials.

Chief Brandon del Pozo is currently on family and medical leave, Jordan Redell, a spokesperson for Mayor Miro Weinberger, announced in a statement Friday.

City officials did not provide details of what prompted del Pozoโ€™s leave. Redell said that details related to a family and medical leave of absence are โ€œprotected by employee privacy rules.โ€

The police chiefโ€™s return date is yet to be determined, according the mayorโ€™s office.

Del Pozo was in a bike crash in the Adirondacks last summer, breaking 10 bones on his left side, and suffering a partially collapsed lung and a serious concussion. He took a period of leave to recover, and returned to his post full time two months after the crash.

He was appointed to head the Burlington Police Department in 2015.
