WHAT: The Road to the Future: Transportation in Vermont

WHEN: Tuesday, April 9, 2019, 6:30 PM

WHERE: The Engine Room, 188 S. Main St., White River Junction, VT

ย

Vermonters spend a lot of time on the roads, which translates to over 50% of our energy-related dollars being spent on fuel โ€“ as much as 13% of household income. In turn, because 95% of the energy we currently use for transportation comes from fossil fuels, that translates to about $1.5 billion draining out of the state economy every year and 43% of Vermont’s total greenhouse gas emissions coming from transportation, the largest from any sector.

Join Senate President Pro Tem Tim Ashe, Agency of Natural Resources Deputy Secretary Peter Walke, and Bradford Rep.ย Sarah Copeland-Hanzas, in a conversation moderated by VTDigger Editor Mark Johnson, about how to transform our transportation system to reduce the cost of transportation โ€“ both in terms of the economy and our emissions.

The evening will start with a short report from EAN Executive Director and Upper Valley native Jared Duval, sharing the results of EAN’s latest progress report on Vermontโ€™s energy and emissions status. The presentation will focus on how transportation–from electric vehicles to transit to land-use planning–fits into the total energy and economic picture for Vermont. The rest of the program will be a moderated discussion with the guest panelists facilitated by Mark Johnson about the future of transportation in Vermont.
