When tipsters call ICE, the phone rings in Vermont
An office building in Williston houses a call center where law enforcement takes tips on federal offenses. That includes reporting undocumented immigrants to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE. The Trump administration has faced criticism for aggressive immigration policies, and civil liberties advocates worry that a hotline like this one turns citizens into extensions of ICE.
UVM nurses set July 12 date for strike
UVM Medical Center nurses say they will walk off the job starting July 12 if they can’t resolve staffing and salary disputes with hospital management. The nurses’ current contract ends July 9.
At Johnson farm, 1,600 mark legalization of marijuana in Vermont
Marijuana officially became legal in Vermont last Sunday. One celebration organized by the website Heady Vermont drew over 1,600 people to a farm in Johnson, where vendors took advantage of a gray area in the law by dispensing marijuana as a free gift alongside other purchases. Selling pot remains illegal under state law.
