Statehouse impasse ends; Scott will let budget become law
The budget impasse in Montpelier has ended. Gov. Phil Scott announced that he would let the Legislature’s third budget proposal of the year pass into law without his signature. Scott’s decision ends a weeks-long impasse over state spending and averts the threat of a government shutdown this year.
Vermont Law School restructuring faculty
More than a dozen faculty at Vermont Law School will lose tenure as the institution struggles to level its budget. While the school has had an uptick in enrollment, it has struggled to pay down deficits. School officials say the faculty restructuring will help to right-size the institution.
New report suggests current standards for PFOA levels are unsafe
The federal EPA last week released a report that suggests risk levels for chemicals like PFOA should be stricter than previously recommended. State environmental officials are studying the recommendations as they continue to respond to the widespread PFOA contamination in the Bennington area.
