ANALYSIS: Lawmakers leave without a deal on taxes and budget
The Vermont Legislature adjourned on Saturday amid a stalemate with Gov. Phil Scott over the budget and tax bills. Scott continues to press lawmakers to use one-time money to cover a $58 million budget gap.
Scott to call lawmakers back for special session May 23
Now, the governor is proposing a special session next week to work on a compromise. Scott said he wants to focus on those money bills — but House Speaker Mitzi Johnson said legislators may bring forward other bills that didn’t make it to the floor during the session.
