[B]RANDON – Bus drivers and paraeducators of the Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union and negotiators for the school boards will meet Saturday morning to try to avert a strike.
Members of the Rutland Northeast Education Association Paraeducators and Bus Drivers Unit voted Thursday night to go on strike Tuesday if a deal on new contract is not reached before then.
Wages and cost sharing for health care insurance are dividing the two sides.
The meeting is warned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union central office in Brandon. It is a public meeting, though a great deal of it is expected to take place in executive session.
A federal mediator will also be at the session.
In addition to Otter Valley Union High School in Brandon, other schools impacted by a possible strike include Barstow Memorial School in Chittenden, Leicester Central School, Lothrop Elementary School in Pittsford, Neshobe Elementary School in Brandon, Sudbury Country School and Whiting Elementary School.
