A 20-year-old student at the University of Vermont died in a rock climbing accident in Bolton on Saturday afternoon.

Rebecca Ryan of Knoxville, Tennessee, was climbing in the Lower West Bolton Climbing Area when she fell descending a 90-foot cliff, police said in a statement.

Ryan died at the scene from her injuries, according to a press release from the Vermont State Police. She was an experienced climber.

The Vermont State Police, Richmond Fire Department, Richmond Rescue and the Bolton Fire Department responded to the scene.

There is no foul play suspected, but the incident is under investigation.

Ryan was a junior in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, according to a press release from the University of Vermont. She was studying to be an athletic trainer. She was involved with the Rock Climbing Club and InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.

Officials from UVM extended condolences to the family.
