Thanks to your generosity we met our $20,000 donor match. As part of the match that ended Wednesday, May 31, we raised $20,030 from 270 individual donors that will be matched dollar for dollar.
As you know, VTDigger must raise $200,000 by June 15. We are grateful to the more than 1,000 readers who have helped us raise over $137,000 so far. By meeting this match we are significantly closer to ending the fund drive but still need to raise $62,925 by June 15.
Your gift is crucial for our newsroom. About half of our budget comes from readers like you.
Over the past eight years, VTDigger has grown to fill gaps in the media landscape. We’ve hired reporters to cover important beats like health care and education. And we’ve invested in coverage of four counties — Chittenden, Bennington, Rutland and Windham.
We now have 13 journalists on staff. But that doesn’t make up for the dozens of reporters and editors in Vermont who have been laid off over the past 15 years. During that period, the number of daily newspaper journalists was cut in half. Fewer reporters than ever are on the job now holding public officials accountable and regularly exercising the public’s right to know and open meeting laws.
