[F]ollowing open frustration from Vermont Democratic Party leaders, U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders endorsed all the statewide Democratic candidates Thursday, including Sue Minter, who is in a competitive race for governor against Republican Phil Scott.

“Sue Minter understands that the key for Vermont’s economic future is opening up higher education to all Vermonters, regardless of income,” Sanders said in a statement, referencing Minter’s college plan. “That’s why, if elected governor, she will work to make community colleges and Vermont Tech tuition free,” he added.

With less than a month remaining before the vote, Sanders also endorsed the re-election of U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy and U.S. Rep. Peter Welch, as well as TJ Donovan for attorney general, Beth Pearce for treasurer, Doug Hoffer for auditor of accounts and Jim Condos for secretary of state.

“TJ Donovan understands that criminal justice is about more than just sending people to jail. As attorney general he will help create a Vermont criminal justice system that focuses on preventing crime through early intervention, job training and educational opportunities for at-risk Vermonters,” Sanders said.

During the primary season, Sanders endorsed eventual nominee David Zuckerman for lieutenant governor and raised $80,000 for Chris Pearson’s state Senate run in Chittenden County.

While he announced no official plans besides the endorsement, Sanders said he would be campaigning with the statewide candidates “in the near future.”

Sanders spokesman Michael Briggs did not return calls seeking information about upcoming campaign appearances.
