The cat came back.
A North Troy man has been arrested and will likely face charges for a case involving the alleged theft of a cat.
Vermont State Police say that Mark Frady, 54, was arrested Tuesday. He could face charges for burglary and trespass.
The case began Saturday when police got a report that a strange man had entered a North Troy home and stolen a cat.
The bizarre story took a new turn days later. Police say the alleged cat thief returned to the home early Monday while the residents were sleeping.
Chris Nelson told police she woke up around 4 a.m. She found the same intruder sitting in the basement, eating a lollipop, drinking coffee and smoking marijuana, according to police. The man was talking to himself, Nelson told police.
She told police she recognized the man as Frady, who she said used to live nearby.
Police say she told them her son tried to stop the intruder as he left Monday morning in a blue 1999 Toyota Camry but the suspect flashed a handgun at him.
Frady is currently being held at Northern State Correctional Facility, and is due in court Wednesday.
The cat was reportedly returned safely home.
