Bea Grause, the president and CEO of the Vermont Association of Hospitals and Health Systems,
is stepping down to take a similar position in New York.
Grause has been named president of the Healthcare Association of New York State. She will succeed Dennis P. Whalen as the next president of the organization when he retires in June 2016.
The Healthcare Association of New York State, located near Albany, is the only statewide hospital and continuing care association in New York. The association represents 500 not-for-profit and public hospitals, nursing homes, home care agencies, and other healthcare organizations.
Grause has been the president and CEO of the Vermont Association of Hospitals and Health Systems since 2001.
She obtained a bachelor of science from Boston College in 1979, and subsequently worked as a registered nurse for 10 years. Grause obtained a law degree from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1991. She worked in a variety of health care positions in Washington, D.C., before she moved to Vermont.
Thomas Dee, President and CEO of Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and chair of the hospital association, said Vermont’s hospital leaders will miss Grause. “Bea has been a vital part of our efforts to make sure all Vermonters have access to quality health care,” Dee said. “She has also played a significant role in advancing health care reform in this state.”
The Vermont Association of Hospitals and Health Systems will select a new president in the coming months.
