NG Advantage, based in Colchester, has extended a contract to truck compressed natural gas to the International Paper Co. plant in Ticonderoga, New York, for another 18 months.
NG Advantage, a subsidiary of California-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp., began in April trucking compressed natural gas from its loading station in Milton to the paper mill.
International Paper contracted with NG after the plant owners decided not to pursue an earlier agreement with Vermont Gas Systems to run a pipeline beneath Lake Champlain.
“The service to the IP mill demonstrates that our trucked CNG platform has successfully been scaled to meet demand which would have formerly required a special pipeline extension,” NG Advantage CEO Tom Evslin said in a news release Friday announcing the contract extension.
International Paper said in April that it would use the natural gas to replace 60 percent of its No. 6 fuel oil at the mill, displacing about 32,000 gallons of fuel oil a day.
International Paper is the seventh paper mill and the 26th location to contract with NG Advantage, the release said.
