Green Mountain Power is removing power lines and poles that diminish the view of Lake Champlain from Burlington’s Waterfront Park, company officials said.

GMP said it is removing the 50-year old utility line this week from the Moran Plant to the ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center. It will remove lines north of the Moran Plant later, GMP said in a news release.

“The significant upgrades we’ve made to the transmission system throughout Chittenden County now make it possible to operate reliably without these lines on the Waterfront,” Mary Powell, president and CEO of Green Mountain Power, said in a statement.
