The Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued a statement on Friday regarding preliminary results from testing of contaminated groundwater and soils at Vermont Yankee.
The NRC has determined that the tritium leak at the nuclear facility, which began on Jan. 7, 2010, did not harm the โoff-siteโ environment, and the Connecticut River was not adversely impacted.
Levels of Cesium-137, Cobalt-60, Zinc-65 and Manganese-54 found in soils on the site were not, according to the NRC, radiologically significant, and would not affect human health.
