A Brooklyn man was sentenced last week in U.S. District Court to 60 months in jail for attempting to purchase a gun with cocaine.

Collin Blount, 28, attempted to make the illegal purchase of a Glock 22 in exchange for cocaine in the Rutland area in May 2014.

Blount presented the 2.4 grams of cocaine base as part of a deal with an undercover agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

When police moved in on Blount to arrest him, he backed up his vehicle toward police cars then accelerated forward, struck a pickup truck and then drove into the woods. His car hit a tree and from there he fled on foot and was found by a K9 and search team.

Blount was apprehended by the ATF and the Vermont State Police Drug Task Force. The prosecutor was Assistant U.S. Attorney Abigail Averbach.
