  1. Maine has several wind farms in operation with 2.5-3 MW wind turbines. It should be simple to set up some monitoring stations at agreed on locations to monitor the noise AT NIGHT when background noise is much less than during the day.

It is inapt and flippant to compare noise levels in a library with rotating blades; the library noise is more of a white noise that can easily put you to sleep, whereas the blade noise is more of an ever present whoosh.

  2. We all know that when noise modeling for wind turbines that there is no such thing as being”conservative” or for that matter accurate. Once the turbines are up and running it is too late as it seems to be awfull difficult to accurately measure the noise in worst case scenarios at 3am etc.
Also I see no mention of at least a 5db penalty for cyclic noise or for that matter LFN – I pity the people that will be living around that windfarm.

Comment policy

VTD requires that all commenters identify themselves by first and last name. You may wonder why we don't accept anonymous comments. The short answer is: We want to keep the discourse civil.

You might rightly ask, since most online newspapers accept anonymous posts from readers, what makes VTD so special?

The long answer is: Anonymous comments don't support our mission. We are a nonprofit news organization dedicated to enhancing democracy through in-depth journalism. Our role is to foster a civil online discourse, and one very simple and effective way to do that is to require commenters to identify themselves. This isn't a new idea, of course. This is the way newspapers have treated letters to the editor since time immemorial.

As a result of our comment policy, VTD has created a safe zone for readers who want to engage in a thoughtful discussion on a range of subjects. We hope you join the conversation.
