  1. Thank you for an unbiased, objective account of the proceedings. I really appreciate your accurate representation of the interchanges and comments that occurred while I was on the witness stand before the PSB on 2-8, which this article refers to. The opponents to the project may not recognize that the job of the aesthetic expert is to solely consider aesthetic, (and primarily visual) impacts, and thus while we may discuss property values and tourism, those factors are typically addressed by others. We have to determine the extent of visibility and the nature of that visibility.

I recognize that this is a very difficult issue for many Vermonters and that those who are close to wind energy projects are liable to experience a sense of change in the landscape that is hard to accept. We have hard choices to make in determining our energy future, and with each of those there will be costs and benefits. Continuing this dialogue is critical.

  2. More windmills on our mountains that are a waste of money. The power cost on average 30 percent more then power from other sources.

There also must be power sources available to back up these wind mills as they only work when the wind blows. Nothing is ever gained with wind mills.

Does anyone know if existing will mill farms are generating a profit or are losing money?

  3. Arguing aesthetics hits me as a lost cause. When this all started out, wind proponents actually tried to pass these bohemeths off as “tourist attractions.” Such arguments divert attention away from more objective rationale and makes well-warranted objections sound like a case of NIMBY. At least in the Craftsbury-Lowell area, this is not the case. The road-building required by these towers, their remarkable size, the disruption to the environment, and decommisioning costs are much more of a reason for concern than the visual effect they have. I can’t help but remember that old definition of pornography: I know it when I see it.
