  1. For statewide fairness, all public (state, county, town, school, etc.) employees should also be in Vermont’s single payer plan; ONE PLAN FOR ALL.

  2. Life isn’t fair. Absolute fairness is an unattainable goal.

    1. Molly,
I am advocating for RELATIVE fairness which IS attainable

  3. I just looked over the Hsiao briefing to the Vermont legislature. What really stands out is that here, finally, there is a discussion of health care that includes dental and preventive care as absolutely essential to avoid greater costs later on for the people and the state government.
Hsiao also goes to great pains to enphasize that the annual deductible is the enemy of health care because people delay doctor visits. Frequently these delays results in a worsened condition and more costs to all concerned. This is precisely the opposite of what Obama’s cat food commission was pushing (of course – they are a pack of heartless corporate SOBs who don’t care about bankrupting government as long as they get their cut first).

Hsiao states that, due to this ‘increasing the deductible each year’ mentality that the Bush adminstration (at the insurance corporations’ prompting) pushed and continues to this day, the USA’s health care system is unsustainable.

No wonder the insurance crooks hate him. He wants to get rid of deductibles! And he has proven with Harvard approved models that it SAVES money for the state!

However, he says Vermont can’t afford the comprehensive model now but can afford an essential services model.

Also, I would rather they hit up the high end property owners with a tax and mix that with a payroll tax rather than the payroll tax being the only funding mechanism but you can’t have everything.

  4. Can one go to a doctor in NH, if one lives and works in Vermont?
Can one go to a Dr in NH if one lives in VT and works in NH?
Will it cover the VT resident who travels for work or vacation…?
    Thanks

PS the hospital costs need to be linked in to this revamping of the payer system.. There should be savings in charges & billing.

VTD requires that all commenters identify themselves by first and last name. You may wonder why we don't accept anonymous comments. The short answer is: We want to keep the discourse civil.

You might rightly ask, since most online newspapers accept anonymous posts from readers, what makes VTD so special?
