Last year, more than 2,000 Vermonters participated in the Dirt Road News project, helping us better understand how people stay informed, what issues matter most in their communities and how VTDigger can better serve Vermonters across the state. Read what we learned from last year’s survey and how those insights are guiding the next chapter of Dirt Road News.

This summer, we’re continuing the conversation. Through surveys, community events and local partnerships, Dirt Road News is bringing VTDigger into communities across the state to listen, build relationships and better understand the experiences, priorities and information needs of Vermonters, with a continued focus on younger Vermonters and rural communities.

Take our survey

We’re asking a simple question: What matters in your community?

Our new survey takes about three minutes to complete and asks:

  • What information is hardest to find?
  • What issues deserve more attention?
  • What would make local news more useful?

Whether you’ve participated before or are hearing about Dirt Road News for the first time, we’d love to hear from you.

Catch us on the road

Throughout the summer and fall, you’ll find the Dirt Road News team at community events around Vermont, including:

  • July 16: Babe’s Bar in Bethel
  • July 23: Speakeasy Café in Rutland
  • Late summer: Trivia Night in Southern Vermont(details coming soon)

At each stop, we will be listening, sharing the survey and chatting about your corner of the state. If you see us, please say hello!
