A Covid-19 outbreak that started at a Montpelier ice rink has hit 112 cases, Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Mark Levine said at a press conference Tuesday.
Those cases have contributed to Vermont’s high case count compared to previous months. The state reported 19 new cases today and 132 in the past week.
Mike Pieciak, head of the Department of Financial Regulation, said the state’s data showed that the outbreak was slowing down and the state’s peak was beginning to “crest,” but that cases haven’t returned to pre-outbreak levels.
The outbreak, started by hockey and broomball teams at the Central Vermont Memorial Civic Center, has spread far throughout the state.
It caused 65 cases at St. Michael’s College, Levine said. It also hit several workplaces and seven K-12 schools: Union Elementary School in Montpelier, South Burlington High School, Williston schools, Barre Elementary, Montpelier High School, Oxbow High School in Bradford, and Francis Richmond Middle School in Hanover, New Hampshire.
