Behind on your VSAC student loans? You could lose your property tax credit

If you’re behind on your VSAC student loans, the state may be holding back your property tax credit. In 2018, the tax department performed 798 tax offsets for overdue loans. VSAC generally has a strong reputation among government-run loan authorities, but consumer rights advocates say these tax clawbacks are overly harsh.

Federal probe into fired Coventry town clerk continues

The federal probe into former Coventry town clerk and treasurer Cynthia Diaz is still active. Diaz was accused of financial fraud after auditors found the town was missing around $1.4 million. Coventry’s current delinquent tax collector told VTDigger that two FBI agents interviewed her last month. Diaz has declined to comment.

Burlington City Council unanimously opposes nuclear mission for Vermont Guard’s F-35s

The Burlington City Council voted unanimously to oppose a nuclear mission for the F-35s arriving at the Burlington airport this fall. The Air Force says those planes are not currently nuclear capable, but the Department of Defense has indicated that F-35s will be part of the country’s nuclear strategy.
