Gov. Phil Scott announced Wednesday that Brock was his pick to fill a vacated seat representing Franklin County.
Dustin Degree, who previously held the seat, left in November to take a job as special assistant to the governor.
Brock, a Swanton resident of three decades, served as Vermont state auditor for two years beginning in 2005. He later served two terms in the state Senate.
In 2012, Brock was the Republican nominee for governor, but lost to incumbent Democrat Peter Shumlin. Brock ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor in 2016, losing to David Zuckerman.
Before being elected to office, Brock worked for Fidelity Investments.
Scott lauded Brock as a dedicated public servant in a statement.
“From my time serving alongside Randy in the Senate, I know he will be a strong advocate for his constituents, and more broadly, for all Vermonters,” the governor said. “I look forward to working with Randy on solutions to the complex challenges we face as a state, in a way that Vermonters can afford.”
Brock said he was honored to be appointed.
He was one of three candidates Franklin County Republicans recommended to fill the seat.
