The death of a Franklin County man found dead in his home last fall was caused by stab wounds to the chest, according to findings the Vermont State Police released Thursday.

Matthew Turner, 55, was found dead inside his Bedard Road home in Sheldon after first responders were called to the residence Oct. 7, according to state police. Investigators at the time described the death as suspicious but did not disclose a cause of death, a state police press release said.

The medical examiner classified the manner of death as “undetermined,” meaning investigators could not conclude whether the death was a homicide, suicide, accident or from natural causes, police said.

State police detectives are continuing to investigate this death as suspicious and asked the public to provide tips or information related to the investigation, according to an emailed statement from state police spokesman Adam Silverman.
