A green, forested mountain slope rises under a cloudy, overcast sky, with the mountain peak partially obscured by low-hanging clouds.

Slow Down

Amelia Van Driesche, 19, Burlington

You have walked past thousands of things today and did not stop to see them.
The quality of the early light.
The sound of rain and an old rusty door hanging loose.
You were moving too quickly to receive them.
Slow your eyes down.
Catch that fraction of life that always goes unnoticed.
Pick up trash on the roadside,
sit still and watch the shadows move across the ground.
Find joy in the little things.
Take a breath,
slow down.
