Dear Readers,

Today, VTDigger launches its Thanksgiving member drive in partnership with the Vermont Foodbank.

Between now and Thanksgiving Day, our goal is to inspire 1,200 members to chip in and help feed Vermont neighbors in need, while keeping fact-checked local news free for everyone. Will you join us?

Every gift this season does double duty: it sustains VTDiggerโ€™s nonprofit newsroom and sends three meals to a neighbor through the Vermont Foodbank, thanks to support from our partnership sponsor, The Richards Group.

VTDigger has partnered with the Foodbank every year since food insecurity began rising sharply in 2020. The organization now distributes 25% more food each year than it did before the pandemic.

But this year, the need is greater still.

In addition to the expected increase in food assistance needs as the temperature drops and utility bills creep up, changes in federal nutrition funding and the ongoing government shutdown have created uncertainty and put new strain on Vermontโ€™s food assistance network. And some 14,000 Vermonters could lose food benefits in 2026 when new federal rules take effect.

At VTDigger, our reporters track policy shifts at the state and national level and their local impacts on real people so Vermonters can stay informed.

When you give, you help us report the facts with care and depth, and today, youโ€™ll also put meals on Vermont tables.

We canโ€™t do this work without reader support. Thank you for considering a gift that will make a positive impact.

With gratitude,

Sky Barsch

CEO, VTDigger

The donation of meals to the Vermont Foodbank is generously underwritten by The Richards Group so 100% of your gift to VTDiggers supports our newsroom.
