A fire at Sugarbush Resort in Warren caused โirreparable damageโ to a building which housed a golf clubhouse and a pub on Wednesday night, the resort said in a social media statement.
The clubhouse and Hoganโs Pub were engulfed in flames at about 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the resortโs Facebook post Thursday. No one was hurt or injured.
John Bleh, spokesperson for Sugarbush Resort, said the structure was empty when a neighbor spotted the fire and called the authorities. By the time Bleh got to the scene, the glow from the flames was visible all the way from Warrenโs village center, he said.
Fire departments from five towns worked until the early hours of the morning to contain the fire, Bleh said. The Vermont State Police shut down the adjacent Golf Course Road to make room for the numerous fire trucks. The crews also brought in an excavator to peel back the roof of the structure and reach the smoldering remnants of the blaze inside.
Both halves of the structure are a โtotal lossโ and will be torn down, Bleh said. The clubhouse side of the structure, which hosted a pro shop, check-in desk and offices, was once a 19th-century farmhouse. The resort added Hoganโs Pub to the building in the 1950s or 1960s.
Sugarbush closed the golf club entirely on Thursday and Friday, Bleh said. The resort plans to reopen the club Saturday with โlimitedโ food and drink amenities. He said the resort is looking to keep the course open for its usual season through October and determine the long-term plan for replacing the building afterward.

Sugarbush closed the golf club entirely on Thursday and Friday, it said on its website. The website said the golf club would reopen Saturday with โlimitedโ food and beverage options.
