The deaths of two people whose bodies were found this week in a home in Eden were the result of a homicide and suicide, according to Vermont State Police.
The two have been identified as David Buchanan, 78, and his wife, Karol Buchanan, 70, who both lived at the home where their bodies were found, state police said in a release Friday.
“Autopsy results and the investigation indicate David shot Karol before shooting himself,” the release stated, noting both wounds were gunshots to the head.
Police said a caller contacted authorities Wednesday afternoon reporting two deceased people inside the home. Responding officers found the two bodies, according to state police, and autopsies were conducted Thursday at the Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington.
The investigation remains ongoing, state police said in the release, adding that the findings will be forwarded to the Lamoille County state’s attorney for review.
Correction: An earlier version of this story misspelled David Buchanan’s last name.
