A second person has died from injuries stemming from what police have characterized as a domestic violence incident, which occurred early Sunday morning in St. Johnsbury. Authorities also on Monday identified the deceased.
Vermont State Police reported Sunday morning that responding officers had found one man dead at the scene and several others injured at a Cottage Street home. That night, police said that a second person had died at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, where that person had been receiving treatment for critical injuries.
State police identified both of the deceased in a separate press release Monday afternoon and provided additional information about the incident.
The man who died at the scene was Nicholas Johnson, 42, who police say was living in the St. Johnsbury area but had no fixed address. According to the Vermont Chief Medical Examinerโs Office, the cause of Johnsonโs death was a gunshot wound and the manner of death a homicide.
Police identified the man who died at Dartmouth-Hitchcock as Ben Lyons, 21, who lived at the Cottage Street home. According to the New Hampshire Chief Medical Examinerโs Office, the cause of Lyonsโ death was a stab wound to the neck and the manner of death a homicide.
Police identified two other residents of the Cottage Street home who were injured, described the relationships between those involved and said that two minors had been home at the time but were not physically harmed. VTDigger generally does not identify victims of domestic violence without their permission.
According to police, one dog who lived at the home died of injuries sustained during the incident and a second dog was in critical condition.
Police said Monday that they had โidentified the parties involved in this incidentโ and that there was โno threat to the publicโ but did not elaborate.
