ST. ALBANS — Two neighbors from Waltham, Massachusetts, said they arrived early in downtown St. Albans on Monday morning — around 9:30 a.m. — to secure what they hope is the best spot to capture photos of the afternoon’s total solar eclipse.
A.J. Rourke, a 54-year-old athletic trainer, and Neal Grinnell, a 62-year-old accounting manager, were sitting near the top of Taylor Park around 11:30 a.m. with Rourke’s chocolate Labrador, Dunkin (spelled, they noted, exactly like the Massachusetts-based coffee chain). Musicians were just starting to tune up on a stage behind them.
The early-morning drive went smoothly with little traffic, Grinnell said, noting that he and Rourke were not going to miss out on the chance to see the totality. Rourke said she was most looking forward to the challenge of trying to capture a good eclipse photo.
“Who knows if we’ll be around for the next one?” Grinnell said with a laugh.
