Dear Editor,

I was disappointed to learn that the Twin State Clean Energy Link project has fallen through. This transmission line project would have brought us one step closer to realizing the potential of the Inflation Reduction Act, the biggest clean energy legislation ever passed.

We’re currently on track to achieve only 20% of the Inflation Reduction Act’s greenhouse gas reductions. Poor electrical grid connectivity between and within regions makes it impossible to maximize the potential of clean, renewable energy — and makes regions more vulnerable to blackouts. Think of transmission lines as the interstate highways that make it possible to move electricity around the country.

Fortunately, the BIG WIRES Act has been introduced in the U.S. Congress. It would improve transmission around the country, making it easier to bring wind and solar — the cheapest electricity to produce — to the places that need it most.

I volunteer with Citizens Climate Lobby, and we have made the case for passing this bill to our legislators. But we need your voice. It’s bipartisan legislation that makes good sense.
