Why is it up to the City Council of Burlington to decide on the future of the F-35 contract at the Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport when the presence of these jets in our skies affects all of northern Vermont?

I listen to the jets all summer during “training missions” as I work in my gardens. I hear the jets fly overhead as I hike the Long Trail.

If the reason to extend the contract is primarily financial and for the benefit of the residents of the Burlington area, the rest of Vermont is not being considered with respect to the negative impact of these jets flying over our houses and farms and trails.

Even with a financial benefit to the Burlington area, I am not in favor of extending this contract due to the negative consequences of the presence of this aircraft.
