BRATTLEBORO — Authorities have deemed last week’s suspicious death near this town’s Harris Hill Ski Jump to be a homicide.

Police identified the victim Monday as Timothy Barbour, a 59-year-old resident described in a 2022 Brattleboro Reformer story as someone who had grappled with substance use disorder before pleading guilty to assault and robbery with a deadly weapon.

Authorities have released few other details surrounding the killing or the results of an autopsy by the Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s Office.

“Detectives, with assistance from the Windham County State’s Attorney’s Office, continue to actively investigate this death,” Brattleboro police said in a statement that invited the public to contact them with information.

Authorities responded to the century-old Harris Hill Ski Jump on Cedar Street last Wednesday after receiving a report of a body found near the base. Local and state police brought in several K-9 units to search the area, which is popular with walkers and hikers.
