The man involved in a Dorset crash that resulted in the death of actor Treat Williams will face criminal charges, Vermont State Police announced Tuesday.
Ryan Koss, 35, of Dorset, was cited on a charge of grossly negligent operation with death resulting in connection with the June 12 wreck. He was processed at the Shaftsbury Barracks and released Tuesday night, according to a state police press release.
Williams, 71, of Manchester Center, died as a result of severe trauma and blood loss following the crash.
The wreck occurred shortly before 5 p.m. on Route 30 near Morse Hill Road. Koss was driving south on Route 30 in a Honda Element SUV when police say he struck Williams’ motorcycle while trying to make a left-hand turn into a parking lot.
Williams was thrown from the motorcycle and was critically injured. He was airlifted to Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York, where he was pronounced dead.
Koss was not injured.
Williams’ acting career spanned nearly 50 years, and he was best known for his starring roles in “Everwood” and “Hair.” Williams had more than 120 credits to his name and was nominated for several awards for his roles in movies and television.
Koss is scheduled to be arraigned in Bennington Superior criminal court on Sept. 25.
