A man suspected of killing one person and seriously injuring another in a shooting in Brookfield in May was arrested Saturday, according to a Vermont State Police release.
Law enforcement officials took Devon Dennis, 43, of Hartford, Connecticut, into custody at a New York City airport, police said.
The May 12 shooting left Juan Sierra, 27, of Springfield, Massachusetts, dead and injured Miguel Fuentes, 29, also of Springfield. Fuentes was hospitalized but has since been released, police said in the release.
One week after the shooting, Vermont State Police obtained a warrant for Dennis on charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. Police say the shooting was drug-related.
Dennis flew from Connecticut to Jamaica on May 13, according to the release. On Saturday morning, he returned from Jamaica, arriving at the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. Members of Homeland Security Investigations, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the New York City Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrested him at the airport, according to the release.
Dennis is in jail and, after appearing in Queens County Criminal Court next week, will be extradited to Vermont, state police said.
