The man who died in a shooting in Brookfield Friday night had traveled from Massachusetts with his friend and suffered a gunshot wound to the torso, Vermont State Police said in a press release on Sunday afternoon.

Police identified Juan Sierra, 27, from Springfield, Massachusetts, as the decedent. They are treating his death as a homicide.

Miguel Fuentes, 29, also from Springfield, was also shot and later hospitalized at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire. His condition was โ€œcritical but stableโ€ as of Saturday, police said.

According to police, both men were shot outside a home on Route 14, where Sierra died. Fuentes โ€œwas able to drive off before being assisted by a passerby several miles away,โ€ police said.

Police have not reported any arrests or details, but said they believe the incident is isolated. An investigation is ongoing.
