Central Vermont Medical Center and its clinics in Berlin and Barre, part of the University of Vermont Health Network, have announced “significantly impacted operations” in response to the flooding.

The hospital and emergency department remain open and operational, but the hospital has closed several of its clinics, including the outpatient dialysis unit and primary and specialty care practices. Infusion services and elective surgeries have been postponed. The hospital’s Express Care walk-in clinic in Berlin is also closed until further notice.

“They will be reopened as soon as it is safely possible,” said Neal Goswami, the hospital’s spokesperson.

On Monday, 25 members of hospital staff stayed overnight to ensure treatment for patients, including residents of Woodridge, the hospital’s 153-bed nursing home facility. Though other staff members have been unable to travel to the hospital due to dangerous road conditions, Goswami noted that “we do have enough staff to keep the hospital operational at this time.”

The hospital is urging patients to “use MyChart for non-urgent communications and access the Emergency Department for emergent issues only at this time,” a press statement issued mid-morning said.

Ongoing operational updates can be found on the hospital’s social media channels.
